The bloodly history of uncompleted temple in Bagan

On the bus, while travelling back to the hotel to get some breakfast (Art of Seeing by PSS - Myanmar, Day 3: Bagan), Johnny told us the bloodly history of
Dhammayangyi temple, the largest in Bagan, and why it was not completed.

Prince Narathu, second in line to the throne after his elder brother, is an ambitious person. His father, King Alaungsithu, was already old and sick. While accompanying his father to Shwegugyi temple, prince Narathu took his chance and kill his father by suffocating him with pillows while he asleep.
While the royal family were still mourning, he invited his elder brother for a lunch and put poison in his food, thus killing him too.
After claiming the throne, he took over his fathers wives by law, but was displeased with one of them, the daugher of Indian prince of Pateikkaya continual practice of Hindu rituals, so much so he had her executed.
Fearing for the reprise of bad karma, King Narathu ordered the construction of Dhammayangyi temple. He oversee the temple construction himself and was said to be a maniac perfectionist. If a mason laid the brick such that he can pushed a needle in between the gap, the mason was either has his hand chopped off, or executed.
When the news about the execution of his daugher reached Indian prince of Pateikkaya, he was enraged and send 8 officers to assasinate King Narathu. They disguised themselves as Brahmans, and went to visit King Narathu. When Narathu received them, they drew their secret swords, concealed in their walking sticks, and kill him. They then kill stab each other in an attempt to conceal their identity, but historians later find out about it.
